Wohoo! It’s “National Get a VPN Day” in Australia

In response of the Australia’s mandatory data retention scheme coming to effect today with internet service providers ISPs required to collect and retain their customers’ internet usage metadata, the Privacy advocate group “Digital Rights Watch” has declared this event National Get a VPN Day, calling on all Australians to protect their Privacy and hide the trail they leave behind online by using a VPN.

For so many years, people were under the impression that their online activities are largely a private matter. In fact, they had even believed that their internet service providers are concerned about their privacy and protection.
But now the truth finally came to light and people realized that the internet has become a place where nothing is forgotten and that ISPs are always searching for new ways to benefit from their customers’ personal data and online activities, and with the governments’ support peoples’ online privacy is being compromised each and every day.

In March 2015, Australia’s parliament passed legislation which requires all internet service providers ISPs and telecoms companies to store their customers’ metadata (Name, date, time, connection duration and other private information). Despite cries and objection from the public and privacy advocates, the law swept into the books largely unhindered.
ISPs and Telecom companies are also required to keep records of users’ location data, including where any communications begin and where they terminate. Fixed line, Wi-Fi, and cell phone connections are covered by the legislation, which scoops up data on everything from social networking activity to visits to file-sharing sites.

To start this “Spying” project, ISPs and other telecoms companies were given a year to have systems installed for the huge quantities of data involved in spying on millions of Australians. That deadline ran out today, which means that online privacy is officially a thing of the past. Or is it?

Australian privacy rights group “Digital Rights Watch” (DRW) believe they can make a difference. Just few hours ago they encouraged Australian citizens to defend their Privacy rights and fight back against this mass surveillance andGeo-restrictions by declaring today as a “National Get a VPN Day”.

The huge boost received by VPN services from Aussies is a definite sign that internet users are real online privacy fighters and they do not like to be spied on or blocked on certain websites.
So, along with fighting geo-restriction and web blockades, ISP surveillance is now giving Aussies yet another reason to pick up a VPN, if they don’t have one already.
However, the thing you need to know is that not all VPNs are created qual. In fact, some actually keep their customers’ logs, some cap their traffic, some don’t work on mobile, and some don’t work at all.
On the other hand, VPN.Express has a strict No logs policy, the most advanced encryption protocols, easy to install and use apps for all your devices, a worldwide collection of best performing servers, and some other great features to keep you safe, secure, and free.

At VPN.Express, we stand side-by-side with our Australian fellow internet users in this fight. “National Get a VPN Day” is a day for all internet users to claim their rights of online privacy, a day of fighting for your freedom, and a day of breaking all the walls!
